Monero (XMR) is an open-source, privacy-oriented cryptocurrency that was launched in 2014.
Most blockchains are public ledgers of participants’ activities that show all the transactions on the network.
Monero’s blockchain, however is intentionally configured to be opaque. It makes transaction details, like the identity of senders and recipients, and the amount of every transaction, anonymous by disguising the addresses used by participants.
Its also ASIC resistant, in fact its designed to be mined easily on any modern PC with a half decent processor. You can also mine with a GPU but there is more profitable options for Graphic Card mining.
Monero uses the RandomX proof-of-work algorithm for mining to achieve distributed consensus over thousands of nodes. This keeps it safe from 51% attacks.
Personally I see Monero having a big future in crypto, which is why I mine and HODL it myself.
How do I Mine Monero XMR
I’ve preconfigured XMRig to use XMRPool so it is just a matter of downloading the file, unpacking and entering a Monero payment address and you should be good to go.
The tutorial is the same for both Intel and AMD chips. All you will need to do is enter your Monero wallet address for Payouts.
If you get a warning in your browser or windows defender you will need to lower your security settings and add an exception to windows defender . This is normal for a lot of crypto miners. They are resource heavy and Windows often mistakes them for trojans.
The files are compressed in .rar format, so you will need to unpack them with winrar. If you dont already have the winrar, you can download it HERE, free.
Once unpacked you will find a folder with a number of files inside.
Open folder, Right click the “config.json” file and click edit. If it asks which program you want to use use notepad, or a text editor. Inside you will see the following line:
Change the highlighted code to your own Monero deposit address.
Save and close your editor.
Next, right click XMRig and select run as administrator. This is important each time you start XMRig, on first run it will enable huge pages, after which the computer should be rebooted. Each time it starts thereafter admin privledges will be required so MSR gets applied. Typical hashrate increase can be up to 50% for RandomX when this is enabled.
Thats it. You should now be successfully mining XMR on your PC.
To check you are connected properly head over to XMRPOOL.EU and enter your wallet address to get your stats.
Please note, on initial setup it may take up to 30 minutes before XMRPOOL show any mining data.
