As some of you may know, or found out the hard way after buying a 3000 series Nvidia GPU, is that they have implemented a system to reduce the hash rate of Ethereum mining on its new RTX 3000 series graphics card.
The LHR [Light Hash Rate] cards are said to be throttling the ETH mining hashrate by 50%.
Nvidia say they did this in an attempt to allow gamers to get their hands on the cards, rather them them all being snapped up by miners. The current mining profitability has created a shortage of most modern GPUs, with some cards earning up to $5+ a day.
What they didn’t realise though is that a lot of gamers are also miners (Myself included) and some like to mine with their card when their computer is idle as it can be a great way to offset some of the high costs involved in purchasing high end gaming components.
Fortunately, someone at Nvidia “accidently” released beta drivers for the RTX 3060 which turn off LHR throttling. They were quickly removed from the Nvidia site but luckily we managed to get our hands on them.
How to install Nvidia Beta drivers
- Download RTX 3060 Beta Drivers – 470.05.zip
- Extract the zip file
- Uninstall previous versions of Nvidia driver and restart your PC
- Install the new downloaded Beta driver and restart your PC
- You can now start mining and should see an increased hashrate with the new drivers installed.
Please note, these drivers have been tested with an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU. They may also work with other 3000 series cards but I have not tested them personally so use with caution as we cannot except any responsibility if you break your setup.
